5-Car Accident on Highway 118 Kills Oxnard Driver

Two Moorpark drivers were involved in the accident.

An accident involving five cars on Highway 118 Monday took the life of a man from Oxnard.

Alejandro Tamlatzi, 37, of Oxnard died after his car was broadsided in the accident. He was pronounced dead at Los Robles Hospital, according to a statement by the California Highway Patrol.

The accident took place at about 4:30 p.m. west of San Canyon Road in Somis.

According to the CHP, Domingo Mendoza, 28-year-old driver from Moorpark was traveling west bound on the highway at a stated speed of about 50 miles per hour when his car rearended Tamlatzi's car.

The collision pushed Tamlatzi's car sideways into the east bound lane of the highway, where it was struck by a trick driven by Francisco Arroyo, 40, of Moorpark, the CHP said. The truck hit the right side of Tamlatzi's vehicle.

Meanwhile, Mendoza's car continued traveling straight and hit another vehicle, this one driven by Raul Lopez, 38, of Camarillo, from the rear, pushing Lopez's car into a fifth car driven by Aimee Birkner, 28, of Simi Valley.

After the vehicles came to rest, drivers were treated for injuries by the Ventura County Fire Department and transported to Ventura County Medical Center and Los Robles Hospital.

The highway was closed for about two hours due to the accident and an investigation is in process.
