Moorpark Holiday Events Calendar

Here's your guide to holiday happenings in town.

SATURDAY, DEC. 2

  • Holiday Baking Class: 4 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays Dec. 2-16. Children 7-13 can learn to read recipes, measure, mix and bake while making a variety of holiday treats. $35. Register in advance online or by calling 805-517-6300.

SUNDAY, DEC. 3

  • Holiday Boutique: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pinnacle at Moorpark Highlands, 13908 Saddleback Drive. Enjoy a coffee bar with hot cocoa, spiced cider and cookies while you shop with local vendors in decorated model homes. Admission is a non-perishable food donation. 805-532-2007.
  • Holiday Lights and Concert: 2 to 6:30 p.m. at . Join Moorpark College for an afternoon of holiday cheer including a fair for shopping, food, music, and kids' area. At 5:30 p.m., the campus will come ablaze with thousands of holiday lights. Sponsorships are available for a single light or an entire string of lights. Donations benefit student scholarships. Visit the event's website for details. Wrap up your evening at 7 p.m. with a free holiday concert at the Performing Arts Center. The Moorpark College Symphony Orchestra, directed by James Song, and the Choral Music Program, directed by Vail Keck, are joining forces to perform wonderful holiday music, including selections from the Nutcracker.

MONDAY, DEC. 5

  • Teen Gift Workshop: 4 to 6 p.m. at the 699 Moorpark Ave. Join other teens for an afternoon of holiday gift making. This is the first in a series of Monday workshops, which also take place Dec. 12 and 19. Free.

THURSDAY, DEC. 8

  • Patch Holiday Lights Contest: Online. Patch is hosting a holiday lights contest in which we can win lots of money for Moorpark schools. It begins Dec. 8 and will take some participation, but what a great chance to support local education! Watch for more details soon.

  • Teen Card Making Workshop: 4 p.m. at the , 699 Moorpark Ave. Join other teens for an afternoon of holiday card making. Free.

SATURDAY, DEC. 11

  • H.O.Y. Toy Drive: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the , 754 Los Angeles Ave. All car clubs and solo riders are welcome to attend this annual event, sponsored by Help Our Youth Today, the Dugout and Majestics car club. Bring an unwrapped toy worth $10 or a $10 donation. For more information, call Freedy at 805-628-6137.

MONDAY, DEC. 12

  • Teen Gift Workshop: 4 to 6 p.m. at the , 699 Moorpark Ave. Join other teens for an afternoon of holiday gift making. This is part of a series of Monday workshops, the next of which takes place Dec. 19. Free.

THURSDAY, DEC. 15

  • Surprise Holiday Movie Night: 6 p.m. at the , 699 Moorpark Ave. The library is hosting a movie night for adults. What movie will they screen? They’re not saying yet; it’s a surprise. Free.

FRIDAY, DEC. 16

  • Visits from Santa: Time varies. Between Dec. 16 and Dec. 23, Santa will make visits to homes in Moorpark. The visits last about 10 minutes and can be with up to six children. Make arrangements through the Arroyo Visita Recreation Center by calling 805-517-6300 or visiting the Arroyo Vista website to register.

SATURDAY, DEC. 17

  • Breakfast With Santa: 8 a.m. at the . Take a photo and have a meal with Santa Claus. Children age 3 and older will get breakfast (pancake, eggs, hash browns, bacon or sausage and juice), a photo and a craft. Children younger than 3 are $10, without the craft and an $8 fee for adults includes breakfast only. Registration deadline is Dec. 14. Call 805-517-6300 or visit the Arroyo Vista website to register.
  • Children’s Holiday Craft Making: 1:30 p.m. at the , 699 Moorpark Ave. Join other children to make a holiday craft at the library. Free
  • The Nutcracker: 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. The Moorpark Civic Ballet presents its annual production of this classic. $22-$26. Tickets are available at Pam Rossi’s Dance Ten.
  • Holiday Boutique: 4 to 8 p.m. in the High Street Metrolink lot, south. Local businesses and crafts people will sell their goods prior to the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express visit. There will be musicians and carolers and hot cider, popcorn and baked goods as well as gifts and gift baskets available. 805-529-0322.
  • Holiday Toy Express Train: 7 p.m. at the High Street Metrolink lot. Santa’s glittering train, the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express, is once again preparing to travel from city to city to entertain families and help to collect toys for the less fortunate. Families who come to the station to enjoy this special holiday treat are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toys. Local firefighters typically collect more than 100,000 toys for the ABC7/Spark of Love Toy Drive during the season on nights the Holiday Toy Express is in town. These toys are distributed in their local communities to families who may not be able to provide gifts this holiday season.

MONDAY, DEC. 19

  • Teen Gift Workshop: 4 to 6 p.m. at the , 699 Moorpark Ave. Join other teens for an afternoon of holiday gift making. Free.

TUESDAY 20

  • Teen Holiday Movie Screening: 2 p.m. at the , 699 Moorpark Ave. The library will screen A Christmas Story for teens and offer craft making. Free.
  • Free Community Holiday Movie Screening: 7 p.m. at , 543 W. Los Angeles Ave. Moorpark Patch and MAC are teaming up to host this free screening of The Polar Express just to get the community together for a fun, family event. We'll also be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys that will go to local underprivilaged children. Doors open at 6 p.m. Come early and get your photo taken with Santa.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 21

  • Holiday Movie Marathon: 10 a.m. at the , 45 E. High St. Four favorite holiday movies will be screened. View one or all four for $5 (includes free popcorn) or $10 (includes popcorn and a soda). WEDNESDAY, DEC. 29

  • Wacky Winter Puppet Show: 2 p.m. at the , 45 E. Main St. The library will host the Wacky Winter Adventure puppet show at Arts Center. Free.
