Sheriff's Dept. Checkpoint Nets 4 DUI-Related Arrests

Deputies contacted 448 drivers at two Thousand Oaks locations Friday night.

East County sheriff's deputies on Friday arrested four people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and issued 12 citations for various vehicle code violations at checkpoints, according to a statement issued by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

In total, officers made contact with 448 drivers at two locations. Initially, a checkpoint was set up for westbound traffic on Borchard Road east of
Wendy Drive in Thousand Oaks. Later in the evening, the checkpoint was moved and set up for westbound traffic on Avenida De Los Arboles east of Kensington Avenue, the statement said.

In addition to the deputies working the checkpoint, motorcycle deputies were assigned to the streets in and around the checkpoint for additional enforcement.

The Sheriff's Department said all of the drivers who were arrested had blood alcohol concentrations above the legal limit of .08 percent.

Four of the 13 drivers given DUI evaluations were found to be just below the legal limit. While these drivers weren't arrested, deputies arranged to have them driven home by a responsible party.
