Update: Woman Dies in Balcom Canyon Road Accident

An accident along the back roads west of Moorpark took the life of one woman and injured two other people Tuesday night.

Ventura County Fire Depart personnel pronounced Janet Oakesbrin, 56, of West Hills dead at the scene of the accident, near Stockton and Balcom Canyon roads, according to a statement issued by the California Highway Patrol.

Around 8:20 p.m. Oakesbrin was driving her 2009 Volvo west on Stockton road, approaching Balcom Canyon Road while a 16-year-old girl driving a  2003 BMW north on Balcom Canyon Road at an unknown speed. Oakesbrin entered the intersection directly in front of the BMW, the CHP statement said. The BMW driver was unable to take evasive action and the front of the BMW collided with the driver side door of the Volvo, according to the CHP.

Nathan Brin, 21, of West Hills was a passenger in the Volvo and was transported to Los Robles Hospital due to minor injuries while the driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries and was transported to St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital, the statement said.

The CHP does not suspect alcohol was a factor in the collision, which remains under investigation.
