Triunfo YMCA New Baseball Field Named in Memory of Kenneth Romine

One of the Triunfo YMCA’s baseball fields at its future facilities in Westlake Village will be named in memory of Kenneth Lee Romine, a Westlake High School graduate and a senior at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, who was killed earlier this year in a car accident.

Anne Romine, Ken’s mother has pledged support for the Kenneth Lee Romine Field of the Dreamer baseball field in her son’s memory. "Kenny's love of baseball and my memories of being team mom make this a very special place for Kenny's legacy to live on for many generations,” says Romine. “His million dollar smile will shine on and encourage other kids to make the most of their dreams and stay healthy with good exercise and nutrition, which is the focus of the YMCA programs.” Romine will also donate an oak tree to the site as a symbol to encourage families to consider organ donation and place Ken’s name on one of the park benches.

When Triunfo YMCA building project is completed, it will share over 30 acres with the Westlake Village Regional Family Park accessible from Lindero Canyon Road and Hillcrest Road. The park and Y are scheduled to open in fall 2015. David Murdock has pledged $10 million toward the project, and Dole has pledged another $1 million for the Y’s onsite Dole Interactive Café. Doug and Penny Yarrow have pledged $1 million for the Yarrow Fitness Center located inside the 60,000 square foot YMCA building.

Additional naming pledges include the Cal Johnston Membership Lobby, the Price Picnic Pavilion and Gazebo, the Hogan Family Foundation Art Wall, the Bob and Donna Presberg Scoreboard, the Guerrero Family Baseball Field Bleachers, the Stone Family Special Needs Locker Room, the Van Acker Community Nursing Office, and the Rick and Ruth Politte Office Suites. “Giving back to the community is at the heart of Y mission work. It is an honor for Ruth and I to have our names on a small part of this incredible piece of history,” said Rick Politte, president and CEO of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA,

"We are deeply touched by all those who have pledged their support, particularly Annie Romine whose love for her son will be felt by all for years to come,” says Ronnie Stone, executive director of the Triunfo YMCA.

The four branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA (Triunfo YMCA, Conejo Valley YMCA, Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park and the Simi Valley Family YMCA) serve 6,000 families every year. The Triunfo YMCA, which has been without its own physical location, is targeting to enroll 2,500 members next year when its facility opens. Public attendance is anticipated at 20,000 to 25,000 visits per year.

The regional park will contain three soccer fields, three baseball fields, a walking pathway surrounding the park, two tot playgrounds, two concession facilities and gardens. The Y will house two pools, including a warm water therapy pool, special needs lockers rooms, basketball courts, a 5,000 square foot multipurpose/event center and activity/support rooms and offices.

"The regional park and Y facility is for everyone, and we have designed this complex to build unity in our community,” says Stone.

Individual site visits can be scheduled by calling Stone at 818-707-9622, rstone@triunfoymca.org. There are currently 40 corporate and community citizen naming opportunities available.
