A memorial plaque will be unveiled at the Metrolink station in Moorpark today, the fifth anniversary of a crash in Chatsworth that killed 25 people and injured 135 others.
The bronze plaque dedicated to the victims will be unveiled at the station at 300 High St. at 4:40 p.m., the approximate time of the crash that occurred in Chatsworth on Sept. 12, 2008.
Twenty-one of the people killed in the crash were from Ventura County, the Ventura County Star reported.
The crash was blamed on Metrolink engineer Robert Sanchez, who ran a red signal light while text-messaging on a cell phone, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. He was among those killed.
The crash occurred on a curving section of track south of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway and east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. The Metrolink train smashed head-on into a freight train on the same track.
