Read Book, Meet Author at Moorpark Library

The library's book club for adults will read Gary Soto's 'The Afterlife.'

The Moorpark Library will host author Gary Soto for a talk next month.

The California author and poet has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. He writes everything from picture books to books for adults.

The library's book club for adults will read one such work, The Afterlife, and discuss it at the April 7 meeting. The Afterlife tells the story of Chuy, whose life only really begins after it ends. As a ghost, Chuy "finds that people love him, faces consequences for his actions, finds in himself compassion and bravery . . . and even stumbles on what may be true love," according to Amazon.com.

The book club will meet at 2 p.m. at the library.

Then, on April 16, Soto will speak at the library. The event is free and open to everyone. The library is located at 699 Moorpark Ave.
