Rotary Hosts Charities for Day of Giving

By the end of the day, the club had given away $117,350.

The Moorpark Rotary Noon Club on Friday celebrated its annual Day of Giving. Each year the organization sets aside a day to recognize the work of local charitable and non-profit organizations and donate to their causes.

The club made donations to 19 organizations ranging from yourth sports leagues to school programs to the Moorpark police volunteers organization. By the end of the day, the Rotarians had donated a total of $117,350 to various organizations.

The money come from the club's three main annual fundraising events: a Run So Others Can Walk 5 and 10K in December, the Civil War reenactment in November and a golf tournament, which is coming up in June.

The club's president, Scott Farrenkopf, encouraged those present to not just take part in the fundraisers, but to spread the word and encourage others to participate as well.

"We don't profit from any of these. We have some expenses, but after expenses, everything goes back to charity," he said.

This year, the following charities were beneficiaries of the club's generosity:

American Legion

AYSO

Boy Scout Troop 611

Boys & Girls Club

City of Moorpark Parks and Recreation Department

Girl Scout Troop 005

HOY (Helping Our Youth)
