Spring Fling 2012 Pet Adoption Event sponsored by Unleashed by Petco

Join Friends of Animal Rescue and the wonderful community of animal friends on May 19, 2012 from 10am to 4pm as together we work to get homeless animals into forever homes.  Operation Blankets of Love ("OBOL") will be on hand to accept donated bedding and blankets (and any other pet supplies) for distribution to animal welfare groups as they continue to serve the community of public and private shelters as well as so very many programs throughout Southern California.   It is a never ending task and Unleased by Petco Simi Valley will continue to accept donations on OBOL's behalf throughout the year.

Author Laura Marlowe will be on hand to autograph copies of her wonderful, compassionate book, “Tommy the Throwaway Dog.”  Based on actual events, this story is sure to capture the hearts of its readers  and serve to educate and inspire our children to be kind to our animal friends.

Zeke, a former Kern County Animal Control shelter pup and TV star is the face of our "It's Cool To Be Kind" campaign. Because of a compassionate shelter staff member and a rescue volunteer's belief in "just one more", Zeke made it to safety and on to his new celebrity life.  Zeke has made an appearance on Glee, has several commercials under his belt and movie and TV gigs in his future.   Young people 16 years or younger are invited  to submit drawings that show people doing kind acts for animals and being cool at the same time.  Prizes will be awarded in the following age categories:   5 years and under, 6 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years and 13 to 16 years old.

Throughout the event we will be showcasing our adoptable pets in our "Rescue Rocks The Runway" fashions, which will be available for purchase.   Proceeds to support senior giant breed homeless dogs.    Other events include our "Barks for Books" booth featuring new and almost new books for our reading fans.  Unleashed and FAR will be holding a fabulous raffle event throughout the event with proceeds to benefit both Petco charities and FAR selected nonprofit charities like A Soldier’s Best Friend, and the Pet Program at The Kingdom Center.   The Kingdom Center continues to support pets of families in need  with pet supplies, and free or low cost veterinary care.    The Soldier’s Best Friend organization provides wounded  military veterans  with trained therapy dogs.  Many of their canine recruits are rescued from shelters and rescue organizations.    Rounding out our program will be tips for pet emergencies and disaster planning.  Disaster pet kits will also available.

Those unable to take home a new family member are welcome to stop by to pet a pup and cuddle a kitty and support these life saving efforts by donating to the pet food drive.
