Free Avocado Tastings at the VC Fair on Aug. 9

The Ventura County Fair runs from August 1-12 this year and while most people look forward to the corn dogs and the rides, I've always looked forward to the agriculture stuff!

Come visit the Diva on August 9, 5 p.m. in the Ag Building for free avocado tastings. 

My niece and nephew always raised sheep and pigs so back in the day, it was great fun to see the 4-H animals and then help raise the bid prices on auction day. As a dedicated aunt, I would boldly and proudly bid as early as possible on their animals.

Then I'd get out of the bidding fast so that the local corporations could finish the job of paying the big bucks that helped my sister's kids raise money for college.

The other agriculture part I love is going into the Ag Building and seeing all the huge tomatoes and massive pumpkins and of course, my favorite - the heritage avocados. You must go see them. They are beautiful.  

Be sure and go visit the Ag Building which is right at the end of the midway, behind the "Zombie" lovers' lane type ride. You'll also see a wide varity of other fruits and veggies, as well as locally produced beers, wines and even olive oils.

I'm proud to say that for the very first time, the Avocado Diva will have a booth in the very same building she's been visiting for a lot of years. Come by and check out my display which has a dozen or so heritage avocados (if people don't steal them). 

Be sure and come visit me on August 9, Avocado Day. I'll be there all afternoon with coloring pages for the kids, avocado stickers and a special display about growing avocado trees from a pit.

At 5 p.m. , there'll be free food samples. I'll be serving up samples of heritage avocados. Most of the day, Calavo and Mission Avocados will be giving out guacamole and chips.
