Blog: STOP—Think Before You Ask a Small Business for Yet Another Donation

The Avocado Diva WANTS to support your charity -- but I need your support too! Check out my argument in this blog post... controversial? Maybe...

The Avocado Diva hopes that your holidays have been happy and healthy.

As a relatively new, local, small business, this was a BIG Christmas for us! We did 5 times the amount of orders compared to last year. Thank you for the support. The biggest reason for growth? Three other local businesses that used the Avocado Diva for THEIR corporate gifts!  (THANK YOU!!)

Did you know that when you support a LOCAL business, the money tends to stay in our local economy and "swirl around" up to 14 times longer than if you go to a big chain store?

Your money stays here in Moorpark and helps our other businesses and families.

In addition, as our local businesses grow, we hire local people and keep even more money here in town.

This also gives us the ability to donate gifts and prizes to the local PTA, Rotary, Kiwanas, schools, churches, etc.  I don't mind donating beautiful baskets to our local charities, but I DO mind when I see them posting on Facebook that they sent gifts from a chain store OR a business in another town. It makes me mad, actually.

Think about that the next time you are trying to decide whether to send a company gift from See's Candy or Harry and Davids.  STOP -- and think about the Avocado Diva or Cafe Firenze or It's A Grind or Carrera Pastries or Underwood Farms or the other dozen small businesses that are constantly here supporting OUR town with donations to YOUR events. We need you. And hopefully, you will rely upon us.

Happy Holidays and Best wishes for 2013.
