Clothes Boutique Offers Family-Friendly Fashion

You're not limited to Target and Khols when it comes to clothes shopping in Moorpark.

Who says the only fashion you can find in Moorpark is at big department stores? Not according to Ashley Jensen, owner of , a fashion retail store in Moorpark’s Tuscany Square. And you don’t have to pay top dollar either. Jensen’s goal is to sell nice clothes at reasonable prices.

“I want you to feel like you are in an expensive boutique,” said Jensen, “but then you look at a shirt and it’s $20.”

Jensen has been doing business in Moorpark for the last three and a half years. Originally from Oak Park, she graduated from high school there and worked in the fashion industry and fashion retail for eight years.

“Just being in the environment of the boutique,” she explained, “I learned how it runs, about merchandizing, where clothes come from.”

Then, one day, she was inspired by a vacancy sign in the Moorpark Plaza that pushed her to make a crucial decision.

“I’ve always had an interest in fashion and wanted to open my own store,” said Jensen. “Then, while I was dating someone in Moorpark, we were eating at Lalo’s and I saw there was a space available. I took a leap of faith.”

It was a big leap given an economy that was headed south and with an industry hard hit by the recession. But Jensen persistently worked to find her niche. Now, three years down the road, Jensen credits her success to the fact that, in her store, customers are priority number one.

“I know my customers,” she said. “In my store, I try to give them more of a personal feel.”

Describing her store as “casual trendy,” Jensen constantly searches to find the clothes she sells. From attending the MAGIC fashion trade show in Las Vegas, to combing through magazines, to consulting with a friend who writes a fashion blog, she looks high and low for trends her customers would appreciate. Catering to both teens and adults, her motto is to provide “high end fashion without high end prices.”

“I look at expensive clothes, get ideas and then I find things that look nice but are less expensive” Jensen notes. “I get new items every week and nothing in my store is priced higher than $48.”

And, who helps her find clothes that mothers and daughters (and maybe the occasional father) can agree on?

“My mom goes with me every week to shop,” said Jensen. “She helps me be conscious of family-friendly, appropriate clothing.”

Jensen believes, however, that her real strength is finding clothes that are unique. Expensive, inexpensive, it still has to look nice.

“I sell different things here, things you wouldn’t see anywhere else,” said Jensen.

Jensen is happy to be a store owner in Moorpark. She has enjoyed sponsoring local events like the Moorpark Fashion Show and the Miss Teen Moorpark Pageant. Most of all, she loves her customers. Over the last three years, they’ve become a part of her extended store family.

“I know I‘ve been very fortunate in this business and Moorpark has been very supportive,” said Jensen. “I’ve made a lot of friends out of this.”
