Meals Beyond Moorpark: Filling Your Tummy at Buddha's Belly

Find out what's in, what's out and restaurant specials beyond Moorpark.

We think the Shop Moorpark mentality is a pretty good thing, but so many Moorpark residents leave town daily to work in neighboring Thousand Oaks or Simi Valley, and more, still, drive into the Valley and beyond and we want to serve them as well. So on Mondays, we'll provide some tasty tidbits about what's in, what's out and specials around the Valley and Los Angeles areas in this roundup of restaurant news.

Jonathan Chu opened his third rendition of Buddha’s Belly last week at the  Oaks Shopping Center in Thousand Oaks. Other locations are in West Hollywood and Santa Monica. This modern pan-Asian eatery covers  the gamut from Japan, China, Thailand, Korea and Vietnam, and has a full beer and wine list, as well as some very fun mixology cocktails. New to the Thousand Oaks location is a sushi menu. Eat indoors or out under a heated patio. There’s also a private room for parties.

Prohibition Burgers and Beer in Tarzana is now offering a brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Create your own omelette or scramble and served with potatoes, fresh fruit or baguette toast ($9.25) or order a two egg special with beef, turkey, bacon or sausage and a choice of potatoes, sweet potato fries, toast or fresh fruit ($8.95). Accompany your meal with all you can drink mimosas—$10 a la carte of $6.50 with a food order.

Firefly in Studio City has a new desserts menu featuring Old School Chocolate Pudding with chocolate chip cookies, malt balls and chocolate bark; Almond Brown Butter Cake with caramel mousse, pear jam banyuls caramel and rooibos ice cream; Apple Cranberry Crisp with cinnamon ice cream; Fluffernutter Sundae with strawberry jam ice cream, toasted brioche ice cream, peanut brittle, marshmallow cream and a chocolate shell.

Barney’s Beanery in Burbank has new dishes for a total of 700 menu items and 200 beers, including Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza, a Surf Burger, The Wing Trio (Spicy Hot, Sweet & Spicy Asian Style, and BBQ Wings). In addition, the menu features many gluten-free options for breakfast, Mexican dishes, appetizers, salads, chili, BBQ delights, soups, and more.  Also, through this last week in October, Sam Adams beer will be discounted.

The Six is bringing its Westside Pico roots to the former Spumante/Risotto restaurant space (across from Jerry's Deli) in Studio City within a week or so.  This  upscale gastropub serves a menu that includes burgers, mac n’ cheese, mussels, pizza, and truffle infused fries.

Madeleine Bistro in Tarzana is expanding over the hill  to open a vegan sandwich, pastry, and ice cream cafe that will be located adjacent to the Westside Pavillion. They are currently raising funds to accomplish their goals on WePay, Inc. If funding permits they intend to add a beer and wine license and expand the menu to include artisan beer and wine, beer-floats, and wine flights paired with sorbets.
