4.0 Earthquake Strikes Near Malibu Coast

The quake was recorded at 10:14 p.m. and was felt across much of the Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

Two small earthquakes—measuring 2.3 and 4.0—struck in the Pacific Ocean off the Malibu coast Tuesday night, shaking parts of Southern California for less than a minute.

The earthquakes were recorded two minutes apart at 10:12 and 10:14 p.m, about 30 miles south of Malibu. 

Light rumbling was felt in Moorpark, Fillmore and Thousand Oaks and even as far as Carpinteria, Santa Clarita and Irvine.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Matt Spence.

A magnitude 1.8 quake also struck at 10:02 p.m., just 5 miles west of Manhattan Beach.
