405 North to Close for 4 Nights Next Week

Reconstruction of the northern half of the Skirball Bridge will require some freeway closure during four nights next week, beginning Monday.

Most people have heard of the 405 Freeway closure, dubbed "carmeggedon," that will take place this weekend, but something drivers as far away as Moorpark might not realize is the weekend won't be the full extent of closures.

The 405, between the 101 and 10 freeways will be closed beginning as early 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The northbound lanes of the freeway will also be closed for four nights beginning July 18 for construction of the Skirball Bridge.

Los Angeles Metro, which had originally planned the closure for this week, has announced that the reconstruction of the northern half of the bridge has been postponed until next week.

The contractor will begin to construct a deck panel on the bridge, which will require a full freeway closure in the northbound direction for four consecutive nights next week starting July 18, weather permitting.

Each night, Monday through Thursday, ramps within the freeway closures limits will begin to close as early as 7 p.m. and freeway lanes will begin to close as early as 10 p.m., leading up to the full directional freeway closure between midnight and 5 a.m. This activity is anticipated to require the closure of Skirball Bridge for those four nights as well for the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
