5 Things to Know Today: Dec. 6

Enjoy your five things, Moorpark.

Welcome to "5 Things You Need to Know Today," a daily Patch feature that provides five quick tidbits of information in one spot. Here they are:

  1. Patch will be hosting a Deck the House holiday lights contest beginning Thursday. Watch for details then—but start thinking about how you're going to photograph your lights. After all, there's $100,000 for Moorpark schools at stake.
  2. The Moorpark City Council will meet Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Among items on the agenda are filling a vacancy on the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council and alternative methods for controlling wild rabbits. The Redevelopment Agency will also meet to discuss names for the affordable housing project on Charles Street.
  3. The Moorpark High School Christmas tree sale continues through Dec. 21. It is open from 5 to 8 p.m. week days and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends and benefits the music programs at the school.
  4. Moorpark's lowest price per gallon for regular gas is $3.61, according to GasBuddy.com. Find it at the Alliance station at 50 W. Los Angeles Ave.
  5. The National Weather Service is predicting a high near 60 degrees and a low near 37 degrees.
