Bargains to Love

Prepare for Valentine's Day with these money-saving finds.

This week’s Frugal Family is focusing on the preparations for Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s can typically be as stressful on one’s pocket book as the Christmas holidays, but having a loving celebration doesn’t have to break the bank. Check out these options:

– From cards to decorations, Target is doing a great job providing a wide variety of options covering cards, decorations, chocolates and even classy jewelry. Best features include sterling silver necklaces and earrings for $10 and sterling silver necklaces on an inspirational card for $8. Soy candles are also on special for $9, normally $20 in specialty stores. If you like to involve your kids in the celebration Target is offering truly cute Valentine card mailboxes to be decorated for $4.

- Looking for roses? As of February 10, Walgreen’s will have available fresh cut roses for budget-relieving opportunities. Single roses $3, a dozen roses $17.99, and deluxe, 27 stems for $24.99.  Who would have thought—a drug store providing a means to afford a high-end gift on a regular fella’s income?

Priced at $31.95, it includes an entrée, soup or salad, dessert, and two glasses of House wine.  Missed the ValPak mailer? No problem. Go to Valpak.com, key in the Moorpark zip code and all local specials will surface in printable options.

– As well, the Grinder Restaurant is offering a selection of two entrées, salad, dessert and house wine, all for $35 per person, reservations required.

If a new look for the occasion is desired, Fantastic Sams had a recent flyer mailed with money saving coupons.  $12.95 for an adult hair cut, $10 off other services. Missed this flyer? Go to MoneyMailer.com, key Fantastic Sams, Moorpark zip code and viola!

Household tip: At certain times of the year, there are increased grocery sales. Super Bowl weekend was one of those times, as party foods were hugely discounted at all of our local grocery stores. Had coupons for the sale products been available, we would have saved even more. To better build your coupon supply, go to CouponMom.com. This site is linked with three other major grocery coupon sites and has links to other money-saving organizations. Try to build up your coupon library until the next round of increased grocery savings, which will be at Easter.

Know a great deal? Add a comment to our comment box to share with others. No idea is too small or too silly if it adds up to fun and saving money. Remember, check with the local merchants for up to the minute opportunities.
