Cold Weather, Possible Rain Predicted Thursday, Friday

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement advising residents to brace for cold weather, gusty winds and possible showers Thursday and Friday.

The National Weather Service said Thursday to expect cold weather with the possibility of rain through Friday night as a storm system drops into Southern California.

The system originates from the Gulf of Alaska, bringing with it lower temperatures, winds and snow to the mountains.

There is a 50 percent chance of rain beginning Thursday evening and extending into Friday. More certain is colder temperatures and snow at lower levels, the weather service said.

Gusty winds, west to northwest, are also expected, and isolated thunderstorms haven't been ruled out.

Anyone traveling to the mountains or desert should check the latest road conditions and take along warm clothes, supplies and tire chains.

Temperatures for Woodland Hills will drop to as low as 36 degrees overnight Thursday, the National Weather Service predicts. The high for Friday is expected to be about 55 degrees with a low temp of 36 degrees overnight. Saturday will be a few degrees warmer at 58 degrees and a low of 38 degrees.
