Keeping an Eye Out for Deals

Sometimes bargains can be found just by looking around.

Finding deals can be easy when one keeps both eyes and ears open. Whether quickly scanning the day’s mail, or catching bits of conversation while standing at the check-out stand, savings are out there. This week, while keeping our minds tuned to possible saving opportunities, Frugal Family discovered the following:

  • Domino’s is offering a medium pizza with up to three toppings for $9.99. If you are feeding more mouths than that, there’s also a two-medium-pizza deal at $5.99 each with two toppings or even three medium pizzas for $5.55 each with two toppings. This is a limited-time offer, so call 805-523-3030 for current updates and possible new offers.

  • Moorpark College—On Friday and Saturday and April 2, 3, 9 and 10, Moorpark College is having its annual Spring Spectacular event with animal shows, kid zone, VIP tours and a host of other events. Cost is $5 for kids and seniors and $10 for adults—cheaper than going to the movies.

  • —Need some new appliances? Warehouse Discount Center is offering reduced prices on refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers—even toilets and tubs. Some products being offered are from 50 to 80 percent off the original price. Don’t forget to ask about the Energy Star rebates also being offered. This is another limited-time offer, so call at 805-222-1380.

  • —Has the car been making some strange noises lately? Bring it to Jay’s Auto Care. Jay’s prices run lower than the average repair shop, plus he’ll educate you on the car’s “personality,” helping you to drive more efficiently.

  • —Got the auto registration notice in the mail and it’s marked for a smog certificate? Americar is a test-only center that is currently offering a special at $34.95. The test includes the certificate. This deal requires a coupon, which can be located in the Moorpark Money Saver magazine, or you can call Americar at 805-523-8800.

Household Tip of the Week: You’ve done all you can to reduce the electric bill by using fluorescent light bulbs, turning down the thermostat, maybe even watching less TV, but have you considered the “vampire” energy users? These are devices that are quietly sucking up electricity, even when off, while in standby mode. There are simple and safe ways to reduce these users and their draw on power. Take a look at www.vampirepowersucks.com, a site devoted to just this problem, and start reducing that electric bill even further.

Know a great deal? Add your tip to our comment box to share with others. No idea is too small or silly if it adds up to fun and saving money. Please check with the local merchants for up-to-the-minute information.
