Library Schedules April Events

There are activities planned for children, teens and adults.

The Moorpark City Library offers a wide variety of free programs and activities for all members of the community. Following is a list of programs scheduled for April.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Preschool:

Little Bilingual Readers—Tuesdays, April 10 and 17 at 11 a.m.

Join Karina from First 5 and Mrs. T. for songs and stories in Spanish and English along with crafts and games. This program is for families with children ages 2-4 years old.

Family Storytime and Crafts—Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.

Come and listen to stories, sing songs and enjoy a craft with Mrs. T. and Booker, the puppet dog mascot. This weekly program is for you and your child to enjoy children’s literature and spend time with other families.

Elementary:

4 Paws Book Club—Saturday, April 7, 1:30-3 p.m.

Paws 4 Healing provides a dog for your child to read to for 10-15 minutes. A free book will be given to each child, compliments of a grant from Sage Publications of Thousand Oaks, along with a sticker and bookmark for their participation. Sign up the day of on a first-come, first-served basis and no child will be turned away.

Children’s Day/Book Day—El día de los ninos/El dia de los libros—Wednesday, April 11, 5:30-7 p.m.

Be silly, laugh your head off and have fun at this storytime, sing- along and Mariachi Magic show in Spanish and English.

Girl Gaming—Friday, April 13, 1:30 p.m.

Come with your friends and play board, card and Wii games.

Guy Gaming—Friday, April 20, 1:30pm

Bring your friends to play board, card and Wii games.

Kids n’ Crafts—Saturday, April 28, 1:30 p.m.

The library will have spring-themed crafts to create with various materials.

TEEN PROGRAMS (for grades six through 12)

Teen Art Contest—April, All month long

To celebrate the library’s 100th anniversary, the library's holding a monthly art contest. Students in sixth through 12th grade are invited to submit one piece of art each month using any media  and inspired by that month’s theme. All entries must be submitted by the last day of the month. The theme for April is “My Favorite Book.”

Wii Wednesday—Wednesday, April 11, 4 p.m.

Join us for open gaming on the Wii.

Celebrate the Titanic—Thursday, April 12, 5 p.m.

One hundred years ago on this date, the majestic Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean. Join us to watch the James Cameron movie Titanic (PG-13) starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. When you arrive, you will be assigned the name of a real Titanic passenger and after the movie you will learn whether you survived the disaster.  Refreshments will be served. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Teen Craft—Tuesday, April 17, 4 p.m.

Make a cool craft to take home. All supplies will be provided.

Wii Wednesday—Wednesday, April 18, 4-6 p.m.

Join us for open gaming on the Wii.

Teen Volunteer Meeting—Tuesday, April 24, 4 p.m.

Come and meet the new teen librarian and earn your graduation community service hours here! We need assistance with special events and in-house tasks.

Teen Board Games—Thursday, April 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Decks of cards and several board games will be available for you and your friends to play.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Knit and Crochet Club—Wednesday, April 18, 5:30 p.m.

Learn how to make your own wearable knits from the experts, our friends in the Moorpark Active Adult Center’s Knitting Club.  No experience necessary and supplies will be provided.

Computer Basics—Thursday, April 12, 10:30 a.m.

Want to learn more about computers but don’t know where to turn?  This class may be just what you need!  During the session, we’ll look at the computer hardware, software and the internet.  Bring your questions!  No prior computer experience necessary.

California Reads: Searching for Democracy Featured Speaker: Constitutional Scholar, Dr. Richard Beeman

Monday, April 23, check in begins at 2:30pm; the program begins at 4pm.

As part of the California Reads: Searching For Democracy program, the Moorpark City Library is partnering with the Reagan Library and Museum Foundation, to present United States Constitutional scholar, Dr. Richard Beeman. Author of The Penguin Guide to the United States Constitution, Dr. Beeman will speak about the foundations of the Constitution and its impact and influence on the current political process and politicians.
