Losing It in Moorpark

Morning Rotary reveals Big Loser winners.

It might sound like a dubious title, but over the course of eight weeks, beginning in January, a number of Moorpark residents competed to be the city's Big Loser.

In a competition sponsored by the Morning Rotary Club of Moorpark and MAC, participants—individually and as teams—lost more than 500 pounds, in total, while contributing more than $1,000 to one of Rotary International's main charitable causes, polio eradication.

Winners of the competition were announced at a Chamber of Commerce mixer  Tuesday evening. The first-place individual winner was Howard Yaras, who lost 17 percent of his body weight. Patty Kreiger came in second at 6.71 percent. First place in the team competion were Sean Canterbury and Travis Sidebothram, who lost 10.41 percent of their combined weight.
