Holiday Lights to Brighten Moorpark College

Inaugural Event will Serve as Fund Raiser for College

The inaugural Holiday Lights at Moorpark College, a festival and fund-raiser presented by the Moorpark College Foundation, is set for Saturday, December 3, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. on campus at 7075 Campus Road.

"Holiday Lights at Moorpark College was fashioned as a unique event in our area,” said Dr. Pam Eddinger, president of Moorpark College. “We have a compelling concept – get as many holiday lights as possible on large buildings in a grand holiday celebration. We have had community involvement for months generating donations and support to let it grow.”

The event is free and will feature children’s activities, entertainment, and vendors, all leading up to the grand finale—the illumination of the campus Library Building with thousands of sparkling holiday lights.

Nearby on campus will be the EATM Arctic Lights event, where America’s Teaching Zoo also will light up and feature real snow, activities for the family, and educational exhibits.

While the lighting centerpiece is the library building—which should be visible from as far away as the 118 freeway—there will be much for families and visitors to do all afternoon and into the early evening.

Vendors confirmed to date include jewelers, candy and ice cream vendors, clothing stores, cosmetics, candle and fitness businesses, and a great variety of food vendors, along with booths for Moorpark College’s Associates Students, Music/Dance, Art/Ceramics and Theater departments, Exotic Animal Training and Management program, MC Outreach and Child Development Center.

Sponsors include Facey Medical, Simi Valley Ford, BOGOPOD.com, Welcome to the Neighborhood magazine, Simi Valley Hospital, the Pfefferman Family, CRF Solutions, Mt. Sinai Memorial Parks, Swink’s Towing, and Invested.in, which arranged for a crowd sourcing website for the event that helped generate about $2,000 worth of donations for the lights.

“We are thrilled that businesses, organizations and individuals have gotten involved with helping light the campus and in supporting our big and spectacular new event at the end of the year,” said Elad Goren, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Moorpark College Foundation.

The evening will be capped with a special free concert at 7 p.m. at the nearby Performing Arts Center.

Holiday Lights is a fund-raiser for the Moorpark College Foundation, a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation designated to receive gifts for the college from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Established in 1980, this volunteer board of community leaders broadens the educational opportunities of Moorpark College students through scholarships, program grants, and capital projects.
