Moorpark's Holiday Happenings

Find fun things to do near home.

If you're looking for something to do this season, whether it's a menorah lighting or gingerbread house making, Moorpark's got you covered. Check out this list of events and activities going on through the holiday season. We'll keep bringing the list close to the top of the page so you can easily find close-to-home fun throughout the month.

Miracle on 34th Street: Friday through Sunday through Dec. 19; High Street Arts Center, 45 E. High St. Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for students, seniors and military personnel and $10 for children 12 and younger. For reservations, call 529-8700.

Moorpark High School Band's Christmas tree lot:  5 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends through Dec. 20; corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Miller Parkway (in the Staples parking lot). Proceeds benefit the music program at the school.

Breakfast with Santa: 8 a.m. Dec. 11; Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road. Features a breakfast catered by The Grinder Deli and Restaurant, photos with Santa and a take-home craft. Cost is $20 for children 3 and older and $15 for children younger than 3 and includes the breakfast, craft and photo. Adults are $10 and includes breakfast only. Registration is required and must be received by Dec. 8. Call 517-6300 or visit the city's Web site to register.

Holiday craft day: 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 11; Moorpark Library, 699 Moorpark Ave. Children can make a holiday gift at this free event. Call the library at 517-6370 for more information.

Broadcasting Christmas: 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. Dec. 12; Moorpark Presbyterian Church, 13950 Peach Hill Road. This children's program explores the meaning of Christmas through a 1940s-era style radio show.

Visits from Santa: Dec. 14-16, 18-19 and 23; throughout Moorpark. Santa visits your home, sings carols, reads stories and can deliver your gifts. Visits are approximately 10 minutes and cost $45 for up to six children. Pre-registration is required. Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 517-6300 for reservations.

Winter storytime: 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16 and 23; Moorpak Library, 699 Moorpark Ave. This free event features stories and crafts for children. For more information, call 517-6370.

Arctic Lights: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18-19; America's Teaching Zoo, Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road. Features snow for the kids (and adults) to play in, animal shows every hour on the hour, games and activities, raffles, prizes.

Holiday Toy Express: 5-5:45 p.m. Dec. 19; Moorpark Metrolink Station, 300 High St. A train decorated with more than 50,000 lights will deliver Santa Claus to the station to visit and take photographs with children. The event is put on in conjunction with the Spark of Love toy drive, so bring an unwrapped toy or stuffed animal for the local firefighters' collection.

Holiday on High Street: 2 to 8:15 p.m.: High Street. A variety of events will take place throughout the day, starting with the last performance of Miracle on 34th Street from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and followed by music by The Merry Minstrels from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Santa and the Holiday Toy Express train from 5 to 5:45 p.m., pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus and a canned food collection for the Moorpark Food Pantry from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. and The High Street Broadcast from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
