When: The library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Why Go: Not because there’s a special program (though there is a weekly story time at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays), but just because books are cool.

Pricing: Free. Can’t beat that!

• AMERICA’S TEACHING ZOO

When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (with animal shows hourly from noon to 3 p.m. and a carnivore feeding demonstration at 3:30 p.m.).

Where: Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road.

Why Go: The zoo’s got two new New Guinea singing dogs, a miniature pot-bellied pig, a Baja corn snake, two red foxes, two goats and three donkeys.

Pricing: $5 for adults, $4 for children and seniors.

When: 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through March 6.

Where: High Street Arts Center, 45 E. High St.

Why Go: You could struggle through canonical French literature or you can watch it (in English) … with songs—up to you. Note that this production is best suited for older children. Don’t be fooled by the “School edition” part of its title; The play hasn’t been stripped of adult language and themes. 

Pricing: $18 for adults, $14 for seniors, students and members of the military and $10 for children 12 and younger.

When: 7 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Bvd., Thousand Oaks

Why Go: To share a story about love, home and family with your children.

Pricing: $24 for adults, $18 for children 12 and younger.

• ELMO BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

When: 2 p.m. Saturday

Where: Borders, 2910 Tapo Canyon Road, Simi Valley.

Why Go: Elmo-themed music, stories, crafts and more. Note that Elmo will not be at the store.

Pricing: Free.
