Horses, canons, flags, canvas tents and, of course, soldiers in blue and gray will overtake Tierra Rejada Ranch this weekend for the annual Moorpark Civil War reenactment.
The Moorpark Rotary-sponsored event, now in its 12th year, will feature the South Mountain, Prelude, Cornfield, Twilight and Bloody Lane battles as well as Burnside's Assault. In addition, there are Union and Confederate encampments, sutler tents—which were general stores for the Civil War—and demonstrations at hospital tents and a blacksmith encampment. As well, an actor will deliver the Gettysburg Address as Abe Lincoln.
In addition, there will be a food court for purchasing lunch and snacks between battles.
Admission is $17 for adults and $10 for students. Purchase tickets online for a $2 discount. Tickets for bleacher seats to watch the battle are an additional $3. Visitors can also view the battles from ground level (many people bring their own chairs).
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Tierra Rejada Ranch (behind Underwood Family Farms) at 3370 Sunset Valley Road.
