Sheriff's Emergency Services Office Issues Safety Advisory

Emergency information is available on the county's Web site.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services issued an announcement Sunday night advising  residents to be alert to the increased potential of flooding due to the current storm.

Already, there have been multiple incidents of rescues, fallen trees and downed power lines throughout the county, according to the sheriff's statement.

The OES, in consultation with the county fire department and county watershed protection district, is strongly advising residents to avoid any unnecessary travel; stay away from streams, rivers, flood control channels and other areas subject to flooding; move to high ground if you're caught in rising water and to not walk or drive through moving water, as people can be knocked off their feet in as little as six inches of water, said the notice.
