Small Fire Breaks Out in Moorpark

A small building burned to the ground.

A small fire that apparently occurred overnight between Wednesday and Thursday was reported in Moorpark just after 10 a.m. Thursday.

The fire burned a small saloon, which had been standing next to a man-made lake on the 11900 block of Darlene Drive, to the ground.

Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Bill Nash told the Ventura County Star the damage had not been discovered until Thursday morning.

Though confirmation was unavailable from the fire department, locals speculate the fire occurred at Mannyland, the whimsical Darlene Lane estate of the late Manny Asadurian, which had a man-made lake with small-scale replicas of a church, school, bank and saloon on its perimeter.

Injuries were not reported and the cause of the fire was not known.
