St. Patrick's Day Celebrations Start Early in Moorpark

Revelers turn out for Enegren Brewing Company's St. Patrick's event.

The gang at Enegren Brewing Company began St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Moorpark a day early Saturday, but that didn't seem to be a problem for any attendees of the micro brewery's Feast of St. Patrick event.

A steady stream of patrons came in to fill their growlers and sample the EBC's brews—including a special release for the event, Captain Patrick's Irish Stout—and corned beef and cabbage patty melts served up by Moorpark's Custom Melt.

EBC describes the new release as a change from the stronger beers it's been brewing recently, at 4 percent ABV.

"Dark in color with a medium body, the brew has a nice roasted flavor, hints of coffee and chocolate, and a very smooth finish. The hop bitterness is mild yet noticeable and complements the natural roasted malt flavor well," the company's website says.

Speaking of the company's website, we suggest checking out the Enegren blog. The current post is a perhaps-historically-inaccurate-but-definitely-entertaining telling of how Patrick earned his sainthood, but others explain how/why the brewers decided to make one beer or another, and often provides a laugh.

I would have been sleeping late then a hearty breakfast then some TV...but my neighbors rambunctious kids woke me at 8am...corned beef n cabbage later!

Ouch at waking up earlier than you'd hoped, but here's to the corned beef n' cabbage making up for it later! I'll be having it later as well at my mom's house, where St. Patrick's Day dinner is taken as seriously as Christmas dinner (and is as mandatory, which is ok with me ... I like it better than Christmas dinner)! Sláinte! --Becca

This is a great place for any child to learn about self confidence. My son was in the Lil DragonRead More program and he learned about dealing with strangers and bullies, while at the same time having lot's of fun. Mr. Anderson is an excellent instructor. He has become a person my son will always admire and remember forever. Unlike many other places, the whole place has a great warm, family atmosphere. Mr. Anderson is not about making money, he is about helping children. My son is now in the Jr. program and we will encourage him to go has long as he wants. It is a great place for any child to make new friends too!
