Zoo to Host Birthday Bash for 90-Year-Old Tortoise

The party will take place the first week of the annual Spring Spectacular at Moorpark College's teaching zoo.

America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College will host its annual Spring Spectacular soon and, as a special attraction, will celebrate the 90th birthday of Clarence, a 500-pound Galapagos tortoise.

The birthday party will take place at 11:15 a.m. March 24 at the zoo. There will be cake for guests and a special cake for Clarence. As well displays will showcase Clarence's trip from the Galapagos in 1928. Families supporting Clarence through the zoo's Sponsor an Animal program will present Clarence with special gifts.

The three-weekend spring spectacular will take place March 23-24, March 30-31 and April 6-7. The event allows guests to get up close with some of the zoo's animals, hear from trainers about the animals and take behind-the-scenes tours of the zoo. There will also be a kids' zone with games and prizes, temporary tatoos, face painting and more.
