Weekend Planner: Oct. 14-16

Here are some ideas for fun in Moorpark and beyond.

Whether you’re hoping to stay in town or wanting to get out, we’ve found something for you to do over the weekend.

 

IN MOORPARK:

: The production of this musical comedy runs at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 13. Tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for seniors, student and military personnel and $10 for children 12 and younger.  805-529-8700.

: It’s Antique Tractor Weekend at .  The festival itself, complete with farm animals, pumpkin patch and corn maze, runs through the end of the month. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Entrance fee is $12. 805-529-3690.

Dinner and a Movie: The will screen The Others at this adults-only event at 6 p.m. tonight (Friday). The 2001 film stars Nicole Kidman, Christopher Eccleston and Fionnula Flanagan and tells the story of woman who lives in a dark old house with her photosensitive children and believes the house to be haunted. Bring your own dinner; The library provides the movie. Free. 805-517-6370.

: hosts illusionist Danny Ray for a special family-fun show (appropriate for children 5 and older) open to the community. Doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7 p.m. Note: last year, nearly 500 people attended so the church recommends coming early to secure a seat. Free. 805-529-8422.

 

AND BEYOND:

Calabasas Pumpkin Festival  

When/Where: Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Juan Bautista De Anza Park, 3701 Lost Hills Rd., Calabasas.

Why Go: Inflatable rides and giant slide, live bands, pumpkin pie eating contest, mummy wrap contest, pumpkin seed spitting contest, reptile and nature shows, carnival games, business vendors, car show, food and beer, jewelry and craft marketplace, kid zone with children’s craft projects, balloons and face painting.

Pricing: $5, free parking and shuttles.

Sherman Oaks Street Fair

When/Where: Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ventura Boulevard, between Van Nuys Boulevard and Kester Avenue.

Why Go: It is the largest community event held in the San Fernando Valley, attended by 80,000 people, and benefiting residents, local businesses and schools. For one full day, a half-mile of Ventura Boulevard is transformed into a pedestrian mall filled with vendors, foods from around the world, a unique car show, kids' attractions, and two stages providing a wide variety of live entertainment. 

Pricing: Free admission.

Jewish County Fair

When/Where: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shalom Institute, 34342 Mulholland Highway, 
Malibu.

Why Go: It's an outdoor community celebration with food, music and fun activities. Musical performances include Idan Raichel, Joshua Nelson, Michelle Citrin, Moshe Hecht, Yael Meyer, SoulAviv, Ari Herstand, Elana Jagoda, Saul Kaye, Iliana Rose and Robbo. Carnival games and rides, bungee trampoline, moon bounces, hatchet throwing, outdoor cooking, nature crafts, arts and crafts, pita making, tree planting, "Jamba Jews" bike blender, zipline, nature hikes, dunk tank, face painting, ultimate GaGa tournament, animal education with the Reptile Family and more!

Let’s Move, Agoura

When/Where: Sunday at 10 a.m. Peter Strauss Ranch, 30000 Mulholland Highway, Agoura Hills.

Why Go: Get your body moving as part of an initiative launched by first lady Michelle Obama to promote heathy lifestyles and tackle the obesity problem. Dance, move and celebrate personal success at this community-wide event. 

Pricing: Free.

Yogaworks Pilates Free Class 

When/Where: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Yogaworks, 8700 Ventura Blvd., 2nd Floor, Tarzana.

Why Go: Yogaworks is introducing its new Pilates studio by offering free one-hour Pilates classes for one day only. Get free refreshments too! Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call 818-457-6900 to reserve a class time.
