Moorpark Restaurants Rally to Help Local Girl With Leukemia

When Hannah Judd was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in June at the age of three, her parents knew their lives were about to change.

"It was earth-shattering," said Nicole Judd, Hannah's mother. "It was especially hard for her older sister, who's seven. It took time to explain the situation to everyone."

Treatment for Hannah's kind of illness will take at least two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy and will require that the family travel to Children's Hospital Los Angeles once a week, Nicole said.

The Judds were fortunate to meet another mother of a cancer patient at the hospital that very first day Hannah was diagnosed. The woman later connected them with the Talbert Family Foundation, an organization which supports Los Angeles area families struggling with catastrophic illness.

"Julie Talbert, who has since become a good friend, then hooked us up with a local woman [Cindy McCormack] who likes to help kids in need," said Nicole.

McCormack, a resident of Moorpark, proceeded to contact local restaurants to help raise money for the family's medical needs.

"We feel so blessed to have met so many wonderful people who want to help," said Nicole.

Starting the week of September 16th, several eateries have agreed to participate in a fundraising effort to help the Judd family. The dates and locations are listed below.

You will be required to present applicable flyers at these events, so visit www.talbertfamilyfoundation.org and click on Hannah’s page – where you will be able to download one or all of the flyers for each event.

One hundred percent of all stated proceeds from these events will go directly to Hannah’s fund through the Talbert Family Foundation.

In addition, the community can help by joining Team Hannah at this year's Calabasas Classic 5K, 10K Runs on November 10.  To register, visit www.calabasasclassic.com.

If you would like to make a donation to Hannah’s Fund, you can do so by visiting www.talbertfamilyfoundation.org; click on Hannah’s page and go directly to “Donate Now." One hundred percent of the monies donated to Hannah’s Fund will be donated to the Judd family to help defray ongoing expenses for her treatment. Additionally, the Talbert Family Foundation will match the first $5,000 raised in this fund and has provided a $5,000 honorarium as well.
