Blog: GOCARE Inc. CEO Presents Nicaragua Education Video to Moorpark Rotary Club

Feb. 21, 2013 - At a presentation for the Moorpark Rotary Club Thursday morning at Grinders Restaurant, Jan Lindsay, CEO of GOCARE Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity, discussed and showed recent video that was shot at the GOCARE education center in Nicaragua and the community.

During the presentation, Lindsay explained how GOCARE helps lift disadvantaged adults and children out of poverty through the empowerment of education. He also discussed and showed the poverty in the Nicaraguan community, future education projects that are being designed and how the Nicaragua Ministry of Education plays a role by providing materials for adult education courses. The 29 members of the Moorpark Rotary Club were moved by the presentation and the club donated $1,000 to support GOCARE’s mission and future programs.

Lindsay is currently embarking on a fundraising road trip to a total of 28 other Rotary Clubs in Kern, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties in California. He will discuss the need to help these children and lead them into a successful future.

“The future of our children is critical in leading them on a successful path,” Lindsay said. “We want to help make these children’s dreams come true through our comprehensive educational programs.”

Nicaragua is the poorest country in Central America and the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere, with widespread war in the 1980s having destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure. Currently, about 50 percent of Nicaraguans live below the poverty line, while 80 percent live on less than $2 per day, according to the U.N. Development Programme.
