Bananas

Technology should allow bananas to ripen at different times.

Isn't it time technology catches up to bananas?

When you go to buy a bunch of bananas, the first thing most people look at is price. What has changed when bananas are being priced is depending where you shop, they can be priced differently.

Costco for example, prices a bunch in a bag at $1.39  In most markets including specialty markets like Target or Trader Joe's, bananas are priced by the piece.  Their price can be as low as 19 cents per banana, or the most predominant price now seems to be 24 cents each.

Of course bananas have a lot of benefits. They are very healthy and for some of us who are runners, the banana helps to prevent cramping when running.

The purpose of this blog is, I believe it is time technology research looks for a way to allow bananas to ripen within a bunch at different times. If like at a Cosco store you can purchase the bunch of bananas and they may still be green. That is a good thing.

But bananas ripen at the same time and therefore last a little longer. But not all bananas may be eaten at the same time and therefore some will become over ripe. So unless the bananas are to be used in some sort of recipe, they may end up being tossed.

If purchased at most other places the bananas are the beatutiful yellow, rich in flavor, still firm, soft enough to eat ealily and delightful. Of course they may suffer from the same issue, ripen too quickly before they are eaten and some may have to be tossed.

But, back to being a runner. I have a banana before I take a long run usually in the morning when I walk my dog. It is near impossible to eat all the bananas before some become over ripe and not as delightful to eat.

So, since we are in an era of change it should be possible to change the ripening process so some ripen slower so they are still good and don"t get overripe before they are all gone. That way, less of the bananas need to be tossed.

I think it's a great idea, perhaps bananas can be grown so the days of the week are on each banana to make it easier to know when it is best to eat your banana.  That may be too much of a dream however and after and yes, they are only bananas but they are much more than a simple fruit.

Maybe I have to much time on my hands. I think I'll have a banana.
