11-Year Old Expands Recycling Efforts

The Flory Academy student's Recycle With brAvery campaign will have a collection drive throughout the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, Canoga Park and Irvine at the end of the month.

Avery Sax, 11, of Moorpark has expanded a recycling campaign she began in February. The effort she's dubbed Recycle With brAvery has grown from a school project to a drive that will take place March 30 and 31 at rePlanet Recycling centers in Moorpark, Simi Valley, the Conejo Valley, Canoga Park and Irvine, according to an article on  JewishJournal.com.

The fifth grader told the Jewish Journal that a life-threatening malformation of blood vessels in her brain has changed her outlook on life and, with the uncertainty of her health, she wanted to make some permanent changes in the world.

"With my illness, I don't know every morning when I wake up if I'll be here at the end of the day, or tomorrow, or even next week," she told the journal. "But I do know the world will always be here, and the people will always be here too, so I think we should just take care of the world, not for us but for future generations."
