Hospital Foundation Awards 'Woman of the Year' Award to Moorpark Mayor

Janice Parvin was given the honor for the many ways she serves the community.

The Simi Valey Hospital Foundation honored Mayor Janice Parvin as its woman of the year Friday.

The annual Hats Off to Women luncheon, this year taking place at California Lutheran University, served to raise funds for the hospital's emergency services and expansion project.

When completed, the new facility will double the number of rooms in the emergency department.

Parvin was selected because she makes a difference in the community, the First Ladies said as they reeled off the many civil and service roles the mayor serves.

Parvin said she's been blessed to have many women mentors, including her 98-year-old mother, who was the first person she called when she learned of the award.

In regards to her volunteer work, Parvin said, "You do what you need to do and it's followed by a gigantic reward, which is that warm feeling you get in your heart."

Though she wears many hats and serves on many boards and committees, the mayor said there's one that stands out.

"My proudest job of all is representing the citizens of Moorpark as their mayor. I think that means more for me than anything," she said.
