Eastern Ventura County YMCA Sign-Ups Underway For Summer Resident Camps

The YMCAs serving eastern Ventura County, Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills are now registering kids for their summer resident camps taking place throughout California.

 

The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is hosting a Teen Coastal Caravan Camp July 7 through July 13 for campers entering ninth through 12 grades. Campers will learn to set up and take down camp, cook their own food and live in rustic settings while experiencing California. Activities include sightseeing in San Francisco, swimming and hiking in Yosemite and white water rafting on the Kern River. The cost is $325 per camper. The Triunfo YMCA resident camp will be at Camp Fox on Catalina Island from June 29 through July 5. Campers entering grades sixth through 12 will experience ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, fishing, archery, high and low ropes and rock walls, swimming, hiking and marine animal education programs. The cost is $600 per participant. Camp Fox also features a Leaders-in-Training program for teens entering college and are interested in attending camp as a counselor. An information night for Camp Fox will take place Wednesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Willow Elementary School (29026 Laro Dr., Agoura Hills). The Conejo Valley YMCA is hosting a weeklong camp at Camp Sequoia Lake near Sequoia National Park from August 2 through August 9. Campers entering grades fourth through 12 will be active from sunrise to sunset experiencing a high rope course, climbing wall, adventure courses, canoeing, fishing, lake swimming, archery, rock climbing and arts and crafts. Plus, campers will take part in traditional YMCA camp activities--campfires, dances, slideshows and the Rag & Leather motivational and rewards program. The cost is $580. An information night for Camp Sequoia Lake will be held Friday July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Conejo Valley Y (4031 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks). The Simi Valley Family YMCA's resident camp for kids entering grades fourth through 12 will be at Camp Oaks in Big Bear July 6 through July 12. Activities include horseback riding, high and low ropes courses, dances, arts and crafts, nature hikes, climbing wall, disc golf, canoeing, volleyball, riflery, field games, archery, campfires, horseshoes, swimming and a night observatory. The cost is $460 for Y members and $470 for nonmembers. An information night will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Simi Valley Y (3200 Cochran St., Simi Valley). The Y is one of the largest and oldest providers of camp programs. YMCA resident camps introduce campers to new outdoor adventures, provide stimulating activities that engage the body and mind, instill new skills and confidence while making new friendships and life-long memories.

 

Camp fees include all travel, food, lodging and camp activities. Financial assistance is available.
