2 Arrested During Sex Offender Compliance Checks

The arrests were for outstanding felony warrants

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department conducted compliance checks of registered sex offenders in Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and the unincorporated areas of the east part of the county Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the Sheriff's Department, of the 75 registered offenders checked, 54 were found to be in compliance with their registration requirements and 21 of the registrants were not home. Detectives will follow up to determine if they have moved or are out of compliance.

During the compliance checks, two adult males were arrested for outstanding felony warrants, the statement said.

The compliance checks are part of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement grant. Section 290 of the California Penal Code requires people convicted of specified sexual assault crimes to register with the agency where reside.

The Sheriff's office said it will continue to conduct similar sweeps randomly throughout  the county to verify that registered sex offenders are living at the reported residence.
