2 Burglary Suspects Arrested in Thousand Oaks

Arturo Fuentes, 20 and Guillermo Garcia, 22, both of Oxnard, were arrested separately Monday in Thousand Oaks.

Two Oxnard men were behind bars Monday evening, arrested separately for burglaries in the same neighborhood.

Ventura County sheriff's officials did not say whether they believed Arturo Fuentes, 20 and Guillermo Garcia, 22, were working together but they were arrested with property that allegedly came from the same Newbury Park neighborhood.

About 5 a.m., sheriff's deputies searching for a burglar that targeted a home in the 700 block of Capitan Street spotted a man on a bicycle and stopped him, VCSD Sgt. Alan Hartkop reported in a news release.

The suspect was wearing all black, as was the burglar who had been surprised by the resident.

The deputy that stopped Fuentes determined that the suspect had committed the burglary; the bicycle was also stolen, from a home on Cypress Street, Hartkop said.

Later in the morning, there were reports of two additional house burglaries and two auto thefts, not far from Capitan Street, the sergeant said.

An Oxnard police officer spotted a vehicle matching one of the stolen vehicles in his area and stopped the driver -- later identified as Garcia -- as he was getting out of the vehicle, Hartkop said.

Investigators found the suspect in possession of property stolen from one of the house burglaries on Birch Hill Street, in Newbury Park, the sergeant reported.

He was booked into the county jail on residential burglary and auto theft charges, according to Hartkop.

Fuentes and Garcia will be arraigned this week in criminal court.

Sheriff's officials caution the public to stay aware of surroundings, as there has been an increase in residential burglaries in the neighborhood.
