A 20-year-old Moorpark man was killed and another man was injured when their car crashed early Thursday morning in the Moorpark area, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol.

The car, an S550 Mercedes Benz, was traveling at high speed on Stockton Road, east of East Road, when at 1:05 a.m. it failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road, struck a cluster of trees and overturned, the CHP said.

Ajit Gruwal had been riding in the car without a fastened seatbelt and was thrown from the car and killed, the statement said.

The other person in the car, 26-year-old Gurtaj Garcha of Poughkeepsie, NY, reportedly suffered a possible arm fracture and was taken to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks.

Garcha was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol but was then released pending further investigation, the CHP said. It reportedly was not clear who was driving the car.
