Authorities: Man Shot by Cops Was Firing at Dog

At the time of the shooting, Josue Jimenez had two handguns in his possession. He fired one of those pistols at a dog just before being shot by a sheriff's deputy.

A Fillmore man gunned down by Ventura County sheriff's deputies after he shot a dog died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy performed Thursday.

Josue Jimenez, 33, died at a hospital following the 4:45 p.m. shooting Wednesday in the 700 block of Blaine Avenue.

He had allegedly been spotted at Mountain Vista Elementary school earlier that day, with a pistol in his waistband.

According to authorities, the man had two handguns in his possession when he fired one; a deputy opened fire before it became apparent that Jimenez had shot a dog.

The dog was pronounced dead following first-aid from deputies and a ride in a patrol car to the vet's office.
