Car Accident Causes Power Outage

The collision sent one driver to the hospital.

Updated 4:40 p.m. March 20:

Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the intersection of Poindexter and Sierra avenues Tuesday when a collision sent a vehicle off course, jumping the curb and striking a cable television box and severing the power line from it to the Edison pole above, leaving the wires exposed and homes in the area without power and cable for a short while.

Jay Ross, 59, who lives nearby, heard the crash from inside his house and thought something in his garage may have fallen over. Finding nothing out of order, he headed to his back yard, which abuts the street where the accident took place. Looking over the wall, he saw a Dodge Magnum where it came to rest with the driver inside. He said he did not hear any skidding, just the impact. He said the female driver was taken away from the accident site in an ambulance.
