Overturned SUV Causes 23 Freeway Lane Closure

No serious injuries in Monday collision that closed a northbound lane, CHP reports.

An SUV and a car traveling northbound on the 23 Freeway collided just north of Tierra Rejada Road on Monday morning, causing the SUV to veer to the right, hit a sign and the side of a hill and overturn.

According to Miguel Duarte, public relations officer for the California Highway Patrol, it is not known what caused the collision, which is under investigation.

The SUV, a 2002 white Ford Explorer, was carrying four passengers in addition to the driver but nobody, including the driver of the 2010 Hyundai with which it collided, was seriously injured, Duarte said.

"One of the girls in the Explorer had some cuts and one passenger was transported [to a medical facility], but that was more of a precautionary thing," Duarte said.

The accident, which took place at about 11:40 a.m., caused the freeway's northbound slow lane to be closed for about an hour and the No. 2 lane was closed for about 20 minutes while the Explorer was turned upright and towed from the scene, according to Duarte.
