Jury Finds Man Guilty of Killing His Sister

The woman was beaten to death with a variety of objects, including a hammer, the jury found.

A Fillmore man was convicted by a jury on Tuesday of the first-degree murder of his sister.

David A. Morales, 33, beat his sister, Maricruz Morales, to death with a variety of objects, including a hammer, according to a statement issued by the District Attorney's office.

The jury also convicted Morales with assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury on a second victim, Rosalia Morales, the statement said.

The crimes were witnessed by neighbors who attempted to help the victims during the assault.

Maricruz Morales died at the hospital an hour after the attack.

Sentencing will take place on April 24. Morales faces a maximum possible sentence of 29 years to life in prison, the D.A.'s office said.
