Dorner 911 Audio Released: 'He Tied Us Up'

Audio recordings of a 911 phone call on Feb. 12, the final day of the manhunt for multimurder suspect and former LAPD police officer Christopher Dorner, were released Tuesday evening by San Bernardino County counsel on behalf of the Sheriff's Department.

Dorner is suspected of killing Keith Lawrence, who attended Moorpark High School and Moorpark College, his fiancee and two law enforcement officers.

The recordings are from a home invasion robbery in Big Bear Lake, where Karen and Jim Reynolds checked on an unoccupied condo, found it locked, then went inside and found Dorner, who tied them up and stole their vehicle, according to law enforcement accounts.

The first audio clip includes Karen Reynolds speaking to a 911 operator, trying to explain what occurred and when it occurred.

Operator: 911 emergency. What are you reporting?

K. Reynolds: We . . . were tied up by Dorner.

Operator: I'm sorry?

K. Reynolds: . . . We were tied up by him. . . .

Operator: When did this happen? When did he go inside?

K. Reynolds: We think he was actually here from when he left the truck . . .

Operator: You guys were tied up?

K. Reynolds: (inaudible)

Operator: Ok, how long ago did he leave?

K. Reynolds: Fifteen minutes to a half hour.

Operator: Stay on the line, ok?

K. Reynolds: Yes . . .

Operator: Did he take your vehicle?

K. Reynolds: He took our keys.

Operator: What keys? . . . What type of vehicle?

K. Reynolds: It's a Nissan Rogue . . . R-o-g-u-e . . . He tied us up right before leaving . . . He had pillowcases over our heads. . . . We're still tied up.

The Reynolds are among the few people who consider themselves eligible for reward money totaling close to $1 million that was offered during the Dorner manhunt.

The 911 audio recordings were released Tuesday in two separate mp3 files, which will be uploaded to this report.

In response to a Feb. 19 public records request by Patch, county lawyers stated "the Department asserts that the records you have requested are confidential and exempt from disclosure . . .

"Notwithstanding these exemptions and without otherwise waiving any privileges, the Department hereby elects to release the audio recording of the 911 call received from the victims of the home invasion robbery committed by Christopher Dorner," county lawyers said April 9.

"Redactions have been made to the audio to keep confidential the residential addresses of these victims . . . "

The manhunt for Dorner that ended later Feb. 12 at a burned-out cabin south of Big Bear was one of the largest in the history of California and the western United States.

Hundreds of officers from local, state and federal agencies were involved in the search for Dorner, who is believed accountable for four killings in the space of ten days: a former LAPD captain's daughter and her fiancé in Irvine on Feb. 3, Riverside police Officer Michael Crain on Feb. 7, and San Bernardino County sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay on Feb. 12.
