Moorpark CHP Office Gets New Commander

Lt. April Baxter will fill the position.

One of Moorpark's own has been named as the new California Highway Patrol commander for the area.

Lt. April Baxter, who has been serving as acting commander since December, when former comander Capt. Cliff Williams retired, was born and raised in Moorpark. Now a resident of Simi Valley, Baxter graduated from Moorpark High School.

Baxter began her career in 1994 in the CHP's West Valley office. She then transferred to Newhall and, later, Southern Division. She also has served in the central Los Angeles area, Santa Fe Springs and Ventura.

Serving as a member of the CHP runs in Baxter's family. Her father, husband and a sister also work for the organization.

"I welcome the news and look forward to coninuing to serve East Ventura County," Baxter said.
