Police Arrest Juveniles Suspected of Theft

Early in the morning of May 13, deputies from the Moorpark police department arrested two teenagers they suspect of stealing items from unlocked cars in the city.

The deputies were responding to a call about a suspicious person in the 11900 block of River Grove Court at about 4:20 a.m. when they encountered a 16-year-old male who appeared to be hiding items in nearby bushes, according to a statement issued by the department.

The teen was in possession of several cellular telephones and iPods.

Deputies also found a 12-year-old boy in possession of an iPod and other items hiding behind a car in a nearby driveway.

The deputies canvassed the neighborhood and found several unlocked vehicles that had been opened and rummaged through. Several of he vehicles had items stolen from them and the teens were in possession of several of the stolen items, the statement said.

Detectives also located discarded stolen property from the May 13 thefts.

A follow-up investigation revealed additional stolen property at one of the teen's homes. The stolen items at the home were from a spree of thefts in the Peach Hill and Buttercreek communities that had been reported May 10. In each of those cases, unknown suspects had entered unlocked vehicles and stole items such as phones and iPods.

The teens, whose names are being withheld because they are minors, were arrested on suspicion of theft, conspiracy to commit theft and possession of stolen property.
