Police Arrest Man After High Speed Chase in T.O.

A male transient led police on a high speed chase in Thousand Oaks Thursday after allegedly surprising a woman in her home and stealing her car.

The woman was attacked in the hallway of her home on the 500 block of Canyon Vista Drive in Newbury Park when she came home after work, according to a statement issued by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect, Donald Anthony Kelly, 31, grbbed the woman and demanded the keys to her car before driving off in her vehicle, the statement said.

The victim's vehicle was located in a parking lot near Los Robles Hospital with Kelly sitting in the driver's seat. When patrol units attempted to box in the vehicle, Kelly drove off, leading police on an approximately eight-mile pursuit along Thousand Oaks surface Streets, the Sheriff's department said.

Kelly traveled at speeds of up to 80 mph, drove on the wrong side of the road and collided with at least four vehicles, including two Sheriff's patrol units, according to the statement.

The vehicle pursuit ended when the car Kelly was driving veered off the roadway and collided with a large rock, after which he attempted to elude deputies on foot but was apprehended quickly, the Sheriff's department said.

Kelly and one deputy suffered minor injuries and were treated at Los Robles Hospital. The victim was not hurt.

Kelly was booked at the Pre Trial Detention Facility in Ventura for residential burglary, home invasion robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felony evading and two counts of hit and run, according to the statement, which went on to note Kelly’s bail was preliminarily set at $2,000,000 pending judicial review and approval.
