Police Arrest Man Allegedly Seen Luring Children to Car

Sergio Rivas of San Diego was arrested for child annoying.

Ventura County Sheriff's deputies from the Moorpark Police Department arrested a man on suspicion of child annoyance Thursday.

Multiple parties reported that the suspect, Sergio Rivas, 49, of San Diego, was at Poindexter Park attempting to lure children over to his vehicle and talk to them as they walked home from school, according to a statement released by the sheriff's department.

According to the statement, one person said children ran away from Rivas' car after talking with him.

During an investigation, the deputies received indications that Rivas originally attempted to lure two separate adult females into taking rides in his car adter making sexually suggestive remarks to at least one of them, the statement said. The alleged activity took place at two different locations.

"Rivas then appeared to engage in simialr activity with children who were walking by his vehicle," the statement said.

Rivas, who had ammunition and a red police type light in his car (see photo), was arrested for child annoying and was booked into the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to the statement.

The Sheriff's office is continuing the investigation and requests anyone with information about additional victims contact them.
