Police Arrest Moorpark Man for Suspicion of Attempted Rape

The alleged crime took place in Moorpark, but the suspect was found in Simi Valley.

Detectives from the Moorpark Police Station arrested a 40-year-old man in Simi Valley Thursday for suspicion of attempted rape and elder abuse.

At 11:19 a.m. Thursday, patrol deputies responded to a report of a rape in the area of Valley Road and Magnolia Street in Moorpark, according to a statement issued by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

During the course of their investigation, the deputies found the suspect, Julio Garcia of Moorpark, knows the victim, an elderly woman, the statement said. It went on to say Garcia forced the victim into a residence and attempted to rape her before fleeing the scene.

At 1:50 p.m., the sheriff's department issued an alert on the county's emergency notification system asking residents who saw the suspect to call 911. Minutes after 3 p.m., it issued another alert stating he had been apprehended.

Dectectives from the Moorpark station had located Garcia in the 1800 block of Cochran St. in Simi Valley and was arrested for attempted forcible rabe and elder abuse, according to the sheriff's statement, which also reported he was booked into the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
