Police Make Arrests for Series of Edison Thefts

Suspects allegedly stole wire containing copper.

On Sunday morning at about 5 a.m., Moorpark patrol deputies arrested three men for stealing wire from the Southern California Edison plant in Moorpark, according to a press release issued by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Since late November, there have been at least six different thefts at the plant, entering by cutting the chain link fence surrounding it, according to the press release. Once inside the plant, the suspects stole expensive wire that contained a significant amount of copper, leading to a loos of more than $100,000, the statement said.

At about 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Moorpark detectives saw three people cut a hole in the plant's perimeter fence and enter the facility, where they spent at least an hour gathering various types of copper wire, according to the statement.

At 4:55 a.m., the men returned to their vehicle and loaded it with approximately $25,000 worth of wire, the statement said. Patrol units immediately stopped and arrested the men—Robert Meskill, 31, of Sunland, Paul Kornish, 41, of Sun Valley and Jeffrey Denuccio, 23, of Saugus—and booked them into the East County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, the statement said. Kornish was also arrested for an existing parole hold, making him ineligible for bail at this time, according to the press release.

The investigation is continuing.
